On Friday 4th June, Battle Town Council and Battle for Tennis jointly celebrated the installation of a Tennis Rebound Fence, on the public courts at Battle Rec.

The event started with an introduction from Cllr Glenna Favell, Mayor of Battle, followed by a short speech from Tony Perkins, Chairman of Battle for Tennis. He expressed his thanks to Rother for their Community Grant covering half the cost which together with donations from Sussex Police, Battle Town Council, Battle for Tennis and many individuals over the past 6 years, has made possible this important development for tennis in Battle.

Before cutting the ribbon heralding the Tennis Rebound Fence officially open, Adrian Gaylon, Rother Sports Development Officer, spoke of how the use of the Fence can provide exercise contributing to physical and mental health and commended the community spirit behind the project.

Those attending the event included Cllr Brian Drayson, Chairman of Rother District Council, Cllr Kathryn Field, Cllr Vikki Cook and Daryl Holter from Sussex Police along with a number of other guests who were all integral in helping raise the funds for the initiative.

The practice fence is simple in design and provides a practice and warm up aid for players of all ages and abilities. Both Battle Town Council and Battle for Tennis hope the new practice fence will encourage residents young and old, amateurs and experienced players to benefit from the pleasure to be gained from tennis.

The courts will also have a new booking system so you can book a tennis court in advance and ensure there is a court available when you are. To book visit www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/BattleRecreationGround
