Battle is home to the very spot where King Harold fell during the Battle of Hastings. An event so significant it completely changed the course of English history – and today the Battle of Hastings is probably the one date in history that every adult and child can recall.
When Duke William crossed the Channel from St Valery sur Somme in October 1066, there was no town here, just a quiet stretch of rough grazing.
13 Councillors represent the 4 wards – Watch Oak (6 Members); Marley (4 Members); Netherfield (2 Members) and Telham (1 Member). There are currently 13 Councillors. We serve a population of just over 6000, of which over 5000 are electors.
